TWYFORD WATERWORKS
Anglezarke Dixon Associates worked with Red Kite Environment to to design and install an exhibition and other interpretation at this Edwardian waterworks near Winchester. The site includes restored steam pumping engines and the old water softening plant, as well as a mix of other features including a narrow gauge railway and nature reserve. This challenging project involved interpreting a number of highly complex processes and bringing them together into a coherent story about water extraction, processing and distribution. The displays were carefully designed and written to ensure that they are understandable and appealing to everyone, from families with kids to serious industrial history enthusiasts. The interpretation also had to be designed around the special requirements of the site - it is a Scheduled Ancient Monument, but also still operates as a waterworks supplying millions of litres of water every day.
